- About Us
The next Family Support Meeting on May 25 is devoted to the practice of self-care. Come explore how one practice – Mindfulness, can reduce parental stress and improve interactions amongst family members. We will explore: what mindfulness is, how it can be helpful for you, and techniques for self-care and being more present with special guest, Shannan Singh.
Recent research published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders by Dr. Lunsky, has shown that parents experiencing high stress when seeking services and who practiced self-care through Mindfulness, gained and sustained lower stress levels than those who did not. Further, their interactions with their adult children improved even though they were coping with ongoing stress that could not immediately be resolved.
Special guest, Shannan Singh will guide us through this session on the benefits of Mindfulness. Shannan is a student at Adler University working towards a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. She works with individuals, families and at-risk youth who have experienced trauma, and who have difficulties in areas such as sexuality, domestic violence, healthy relationships, addiction, anxiety, depression and grief. In her own practice, Shannan takes a person-centered and mindfulness approach to working with her clients.
