PARTNERS
We work with partners across BC to build welcoming communities. Together, we support people with developmental disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, seniors, newcomers, and others who may face barriers—so that everyone feels included and valued.
InWithForward
In 2014, we partnered with InWithForward—a team of social designers and ethnographers—to better understand social isolation in a mixed housing community. Their team lived in the building for three months, getting to know residents and their daily experiences. This work led to the co-creation of several lasting and meaningful programs:
-
Kudoz – a platform for sharing experiences and trying new things. Alongside Meraki and CoMakeDo
-
It eventually evolved into Curiko, a digital platform that helps people connect through shared interests.
-
Real Talk – a program that creates space for open, honest conversations about relationships and sexual health. It later grew to include Connecting Queer Communities, providing support tailored to LGBTQ2S+ individuals.
Degrees of Change
In 2017, we co-founded the Degrees of Change collective with Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion, Kinsight, and InWithForward. Together, we explore new ideas, host inclusive events, and develop projects that reflect shared values and community needs.
Prior to this, we embraced Asset-Based Community Development—an approach focused on recognizing and building upon the strengths and gifts already present in individuals and communities.
Some of our valued community partners include:
- Public Health Association of BC – “Can You Dig It” inclusive community gardens
- Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC – “The Front Steps” intergenerational connection projects
- Emily Carr University of Art + Design – support for community-engaged arts
- Neworld Theatre – inclusive productions like “King Arthur’s Night”
- Happy City – exploring how urban design can promote social inclusion
