As our young adults transition out of the school system, we are thinking about the next stage in their journey. While community inclusion day programs exist, we see an alternative option that will allow these youth to shine and fully realize their potential. We are searching for meaningful daily activities and inclusion opportunities (about 30 hours/week).
We wish to create a person-centered alternative that will provide employment, life skills training, and socialization for a small group of peers (ideally 6-8 to start). InclusionWorks is an existing model of family governed service. It involves families pooling together their CLBC resources with support from a Host Agency to create a customized youth transition program. This model has been successfully implemented in other BC communities!
The First Step
Come join us and meet other families, as we learn from Arlene Zuckernick, a parent who has done this all before!
We feel that if done well, this opportunity can benefit our youth, our families and our community. Curious to learn more? We are going to make a presentation and have a discussion at the upcoming FamilyWorks Chapter Meeting!
Refreshments will be provided, and there is ample free parking onsite. A list of reading materials is available. For questions and more information please email Sharon, email@example.com
