Over the past five years, we have built successful partnerships with non-profit organizations dedicated to inclusive hiring through Goodbye Graffiti™, and now through – Goodbye Garbage™.
One of these partnerships is with posAbilities Employment Service, who join us in assisting people with diverse abilities to find and sustain paid work. Together we have successfully transitioned Adam and many others who have a variety of skill sets onto our teams.
We start off by looking at job fit, making sure there’s a good match between the candidate’s skills and abilities, and the work we offer. With guidance and support, we create a smooth onboarding experience, and develop a productive, long-term relationship. We gain a loyal, hard-working and much valued teammate who is able to thrive in our values-driven organization. With loyalty comes great morale and lower turnover. Savings to our recruitment and training budgets contributes to our ability to be a living wage employer.
We have worked closely with posAbilities to collaborate and discuss what our role is as an employer, and how we can be as inclusive and supportive as possible when hiring.
We believe everyone who wants to work and has skills to offer, deserves a chance to show us what they can do. We want to be part of the solution toward helping people overcome previously held societal barriers or biases. These active efforts have made an incredibly positive impact on our team and have truly enriched our company culture.
Employee Feature – Meet Adam
Adam was one of our first hires at Goodbye Garbage™. We are familiar with Adam from his time at Goodbye Graffiti™, and we know he does not shy away from hard work. We dedicated ourselves to paying a living wage and began our mutual journey to a flourishing business that walks the walk when it comes to our values.
As a 1st Mate, Adam works with a partner on our work trucks with a daily dedication to professional services, keeping a clean and livable community in mind. Adam arrives at work excited for the day and what new experiences may come out of it.
Adam’s bright and warm personality shines through when he talks about his hobbies, like watching his favourite TV shows, playing guitar or hanging out with friends and his girlfriend at home. This positive energy carries over when he talks about work.
Adam has told his Employment Specialist at posAbilities that Goodbye Garbage™ is special and fun, because he gets to meet and work with lots of positive people. He loves being out in the neighbourhood and learning more about his community, and that each job is different with new people. He loves going out in the community with The Captain, a colleague he works with each day. But above all, he told his Employment Specialist that he loves working on a big truck and working with good people. We are honoured that Adam thinks so highly of our culture and working with us, and we are also grateful to have him!
