At posAbilities, the individuals on our team help make the great work we do possible! Each team member contributes their unique skill sets, backgrounds, knowledge, and of course has a story to tell.

Meet Community Support Worker, Lisa Peng!

I first started with posAbilities back in 2008. At the time, I had young kids and my husband was working full-time. We needed some extra income and I was only available to work on the weekends, as I was busy with my kids during the weekdays. I explored getting into this industry and it helped that the hours were flexible and could accommodate my family life. So I went to school, graduated and landed at posAbilities!

I work at one of our residential care homes as a community support worker. A typical day involves helping the people we support with their personal care needs, accommodating everyone’s interests and activities into the day, and supporting them to engage with and volunteer in their local community. By supporting persons served to be more involved in the community, I feel like I’ve made a difference in their lives.

In terms of personal development, this job has helped me improve my communication skills – something that’s very important in my line of work. Not only is it one of the most important elements with my team, but it helps when learning and developing methods of communication with the people we support. As in all areas of life, a positive attitude also goes a long way. I’ve seen the significant benefits of positive thinking in the workplace. I try to bring that energy with me to work every day and it makes a big difference when working with my team.

Over the course of my 10+ years of working with posAbilities, I’m happy to have met a variety of people. We are a diverse team, and I enjoy the experience of working with all kinds of personality types. I’ve definitely met some friends along the way. As a team member, I know I’m not alone. I’m grateful for my colleagues and we work well together. We work as a team to solve problems quicker and find the solutions that work best to continue running our program as smoothly as possible.
