This year’s 24th Annual Eastside Culture Crawl has gone virtual! With some studios, like our own Alternative Creations Studio, choosing not to open their doors, the re-imagined festival includes new virtual opportunities to connect with artists in their studios.
Getting Creative and Going Virtual
The mission of the Culture Crawl is to connect artists and the public. Each year, it shines a spotlight on Vancouver’s vibrant Eastside arts community. The events and programming during the festival also examine artists’ experiences and current challenges. Some themes of this year’s Culture Crawl include connecting in a year of disconnection and finding creative resilience in uncertain times.
The festival itself has proved resilient. To ensure guests and artists enjoy a safe yet engaging festival experience, the Eastside Culture Crawl has taken a hybrid approach. Some studios are open for in-person visits by appointment. Other artists will be streaming live. And still others are taking advantage of virtual platforms.
A 360 Tour of Alternative Creations Studio
While Alternative Creations Studio will not be open for in-person visits during the festival, you can still explore Alternatives with the virtual studio tour! This 360° walkthrough of the studio features interactive anchor points which allow you to take a closer look at the artwork and learn more about the studio.
Each anchor point will display a photo or video. In the gallery up front, you can see each artwork up close and read the name of the piece and the artist. In the studio, you’ll see still images and videos of the artists at work. Be sure to check out the TV to watch a short documentary about Alternatives!
Window viewing is also available during the festival from 5 – 7 pm on Fridays (November 13 & 20) and from 10 am – 5:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays (November 14 – 15 & 21 – 22).
#ArtBikes2020 – Vote for Your Favourite!

The four designs with the most votes will make their way onto Vancouver’s streets! Alternatives is proud to be one of the eight designs up for consideration. You can cast your vote here.
