By late September, many families have already settled into the new school routine. While the first weeks of school often bring excitement and change, they can also highlight challenges — especially for parents of children with disabilities. Families may still be wondering: Is my child truly included? Are they getting the quality education they deserve?

Inclusive education is more than just being in the same classroom. It’s about meaningful participation, belonging, and having the right supports in place so every student can thrive. When schools embrace inclusion, the benefits ripple outward — fostering empathy, collaboration, and stronger communities.

A Resource for Families and Educators

To help make inclusion a reality in Canadian schools and classrooms, Inclusive Education Canada and Inclusion Canada created a project called The Source for Inclusive Education. This online hub offers:

  • Strategies and best practices for inclusive classrooms
  • Tools to support teachers, principals, and school leaders
  • Guidance for parents advocating for their child’s needs
  • Resources grounded in Canadian research and lived experience

These materials are designed to give everyone in the school community the knowledge and confidence to create learning environments where all children feel welcomed and supported.

Share and Spread the Word

Now that the school year is underway, it’s the perfect time to share these resources with families, schools, and educators in your network. Together, we can ensure that inclusive education is the expectation — and the reality — for students across the country.
